Every Wednesday JHPR spotlight a woman doing amazing things within her business field. As champions of startups and small business owners we will be selecting a wonder women to profile each week.

Today we would like to introduce Vicki Psarias, founder of Honest Mum Blog.

Vicki Psarias, divides her time between Leeds and London with her husband and two children and is a full time professional blogger, award winning filmmaker, former magazine editor and sometime model. Her critically acclaimed parenting, lifestyle, food and beauty blog was set up in 2010, and its sister style blog Mummy’s Got Style followed in 2012. Today the blog has an average of 80,000 monthly visits and has a social media reach of over 50,000.

What inspired you to start your business?

Personally, my children made me more creative. They encouraged me to be more ambitious, fearless and ultimately, determined to succeed. For them, as much as for myself.

They indirectly helped me to utilise the little time I had, particularly on maternity leave, in the most productive way. I became much more prolific as a writer and more committed and focused on my craft.

What has been your greatest business achievement?

As a professional blogger, I have written and have featured in films and campaigns for a diverse range of clients including: Google, Yahoo, Harrods, Selfridges, Net-A-Porter, heidi klein, Topshop, John Lewis, Harrods, H&M, Wolf & Whistle, Esprit, Very, Joules, Hobbs, Zalando, Motilo, Fashiola, Avenue 32, Clarks, NIVEA UK, L’Oreal Paris UK, bareMinerals UK, Superdrug, Nova Harley, Seraphine, Cosatto, Great Plains, The Jacques Vert Group and many more.

How is your business contributing to your community or society?

I regularly give speeches and contribute on discussion panels and has spoken about my blogging career at BritMums, Mumsnet’s Blogfest, the British Library and in a workshop titled ‘Turning Passion into Pounds’ with Jessica Huie MBE, Founder of JHPR in collaboration with Stylist Magazine’s #Reclainyourlunchbreak campaign.

Best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?

The act of simply having the confidence, feigned or real, to step out of your norm, to stop that negative voice telling yourself you can’t be a ‘…fill in the blank’: writer, blogger, actor, doctor, lawyer, artist… and JUST believing you can and going for it, creates results.
